I heard another YouTube about repentance being a “work,” so you don’t have to repent. I think this is error. I repent at least twice a day, with the Lord’s Prayer, as bookends to my time asleep.
8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Matthew 6:8-15 NKJV
I mean, it just makes sense! Jesus taught us to pray for our daily bread every day, and the next verse is repentance! Every day!
The TS2009 translates this passage in a mind-grabbing way.
Elohim is a righteous judge.
And Ěl is enraged every day,
If one does not repent!
He sharpens His sword,
He bends His bow and makes it ready,
Tehillim (Psalms) 7:11-12 TS2009
Some other translations are similar.
11 God is a righteous judge,
and a God who feels indignation every day.
12 If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword;
he has bent and readied his bow;
13 he has prepared for him his deadly weapons,
making his arrows fiery shafts.
Psalm 7:11-13 ESV
This verse is pretty obvious.
He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.
Proverbs 28:13 NASB
And with this well-known verse, what happens if we don’t confess our sins?
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 KJV
As for me, I don’t think that daily repentance is a “work,” I think it’s a requirement.
Jesus is coming soon. Be ready!
32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:32-35 NKJV
34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Luke 21:34-36 NKJV
