Corrie ten Boom suffered mightily at the hands of the Nazis because she and her family hid Jews in WWII. I remember reading this quote and seeing it on TV many years ago. Corrie’s dad tells her God will give her strength to face death when she needs it.
“Father sat down on the edge of the narrow bed. “Corrie,” he began gently, “when you and I go to Amsterdam-when do I give you your ticket?”Corrie ten Boom, The Hiding Place: The Triumphant True Story of Corrie Ten Boom
I sniffed a few times, considering this.
“Why, just before we get on the train.”
“Exactly. And our wise Father in heaven knows when we’re going to need things, too. Don’t run out ahead of Him, Corrie. When the time comes that some of us will have to die, you will look into your heart and find the strength you need-just in time.”
Many Christians have died for their faith, and the Bible says that practice will continue.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will growcold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”
Matthew 24:9-14 NKJV
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Revelation 2:10 KJV
And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.”
Revelation 20:4 NKJV
So in my Bible study the past few years I have been looking for Scripture to confirm what Corrie’s father told her, that God will give strength to face death when the time arises. I have found many Scriptures like this that are “close.”
“Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”
Psalm 50:15 NKJV
I say this is “close” because deliverance depends on me calling on God in the day of trouble. I know me and my sinful nature, and what if I’m in fear and neglect to call on God?
Last night this very familiar verse jumped out.
But the deliverance of the righteous is from יהוה,
Their strength in time of distress.
Tehillim (Psalms) 37:39 TS2009
He is my strength in the time of distress! 🙂
But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
He is their strength in the time of trouble.
Psalm 37:39 NKJV
Jesus is coming very soon. Be ready!
4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-6 NKJV
32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:32-35 NKJV
34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Luke 21:34-36 NKJV
