4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thessalonians 5:4-6 NKJV

34 “Buttake heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down withcarousing, drunkenness, andcares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, andpray always that you maybe countedworthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, andto stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:34-36 NKJV

Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. Proverbs 18:2 ESV
The most important thing about talking with fools is to make sure I’m not the fool. For example, how does Proverbs 18:2 above apply to me? Am I listening to understand, or am I just waiting for my turn to talk? More such tests in this post: The Fool Self-Test
Paul writes we should always be ready to use our words for good.
5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:5-6 ESV
But with some people – fools – it is often best to say nothing at all. The conversation will not be profitable.
Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge. Proverbs 14:7 ESV
Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words. Proverbs 23:9 ESV
If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet. Proverbs 29:9 ESV
Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. Proverbs 18:2 ESV
If you do have a conversation with a fool, Proverbs 26 has guidance what to say.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself. 5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes. Proverbs 26:4-5 ESV
“How do you know the earth is billions of years old? Were you there?” (Verse 4 – Don’t accept the error.)
“The Bible says that God created the earth and everything for it in six days about 6,000 years ago.” (Verse 5 – Give the truth.)

Sometimes it is hard to say nothing when fools are talking their foolishness. But I have learned that sometimes just saying nothing and walking away should have been what I did. 😮 😉
The beginning of strife is like letting out water, so quit before the quarrel breaks out. Proverbs 17:14 ESV

30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 ESV

With my voice I cry out to the Lord; with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord. 2 I pour out my complaint before him; I tell my trouble before him. Psalms 142:1-2 ESV
Elijah’s prayer is honest, kind of a ‘complaint’ to God.
But [Elijah] himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” 1 Kings 19:4 ESV
Jonah is also very honest in his prayer, and it seems to me he is really complaining.
But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.2 And he prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster.3 Therefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”4 And the Lord said, “Do you do well to be angry?” Jonah 4:1-4 ESV
I have a hard time ‘complaining’ to God like Elijah and Jonah. But David did.
With my voice I cry out to the Lord; with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord. 2 I pour out my complaint before him; I tell my trouble before him. Psalms 142:1-2 ESV
Thinking about this I realized a ‘complaint prayer’ is a way to unburden myself from something He should be carrying.
Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalms 55:22 NKJV
Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, the God of our salvation. Selah Psalms 68:19 BSB
28 “Come toMe, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take My yoke upon youand learn from Me, for I amgentle andlowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
(Memo to self: Become more honest and intimate in prayer.)
You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.” Psalms 27:8 ESV
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are,yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16 NKJV

Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. Psalm 119:92 NKJV
James tells us to consider trials pure joy, because trials have a purpose – our perfection.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4 NKJV
Like refining gold and silver to get rid of the impurities, trials get rid of junk in us.
The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the Lord tests the hearts. Proverbs 17:3 NKJV
I agree with the Psalmist. God’s promises get me through my trials, especially God’s promise of eternal life.
Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. Psalm 119:92 NKJV
14 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even somust the Son of Man be lifted up,15 that whoever believes in Him shouldnot perish buthave eternal life.16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begottenSon, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:14-17 NKJV
It takes faith to please God.
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
It helps me to know that everything isn’t going to work out well in this life in this sinful, evil world.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. 15 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:13-16 NKJV
“These things I have spoken to you, thatin Me you may have peace. In the world youwill have tribulation; but be of good cheer,I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NKJV
Therefore I am setting my mind on the things above, on eternal life!
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NKJV
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:10-13 NKJV
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4 NKJV
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV
