Eternal life is knowing God

The last line of Ps 1:3 doesn’t seem true in my life now – many failures!

God has an eternal view.

For at least a couple years I have been obeying Jesus’ command to pray to be counted worthy to escape all the horrible things coming. Doing this has given me much time to think about how and why I can be counted worthy to escape. It is all about what Jesus did for me, not my works and my filthy-rags righteousness.
But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6 NKJV
4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Jesus washed me from my sins in His own blood.

Jesus sanctifies and cleanses me.

Because of Him, Jesus is my wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. I’m only going to boast about what He has done for me!

Jesus became sin for me, so I could have His righteousness.

Thank God for His wonderful gift of eternal life!

54 He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens.55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens.56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?” Luke 12:54-56 ESV
See, the world will be surprised by the beginning of end-time events, but believers in Jesus are not supposed to be surprised!
Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you.2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. Watching for Jesus gets us ready to meet Him!
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. 1 John 3:1-3 ESV
I believe the Bible teaches that not watching for Jesus can cause one to miss the rapture, or worse.
“‘Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.’” Revelation 2:5 ESV

After waking up this morning I spent quite a bit of time thinking about the Matthew 6 passage above. “What treasures do I have in heaven? Is my heart really in the right place?“
It was a good exercise. I agree with Paul, that stuff in this life is trash compared to being known by Jesus.
7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,11that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:7-11 ESV
The definition of eternal life is knowing God.
“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3 ESV
Therefore all believers have this treasure waiting in heaven. 😊
