Do *YOU* Recognize The Time?

It appears to me the technology and politics exist that this prophecy could soon come to pass.

16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Revelation 13:16-17 NKJV

Taking the mark of the beast has a huge downside – eternal death.

9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Therefore I am not going to participate in any technology required to buy or sell! I don’t want Jesus to call me a hypocrite.

54 Then He also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is. 55 And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. 56 Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?”

Now is the time to get close to the good shepherd!

It’s a cute quote, but is it true? I submit that for believers in Jesus it should not be true. Consider these words of Jesus.

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

Jesus in John 15:7 NKJV

Having God do for me what I desire sounds a lot like “my plans.”

He does give you according to your heart,
And fills all your plans!
Tehillim (Psalms) 20:4 TS2009

To me the secret seems to be to get close to God and let Him put His desires for my life in my heart.

Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 NKJV

It is then a “partnership” of bringing these desires to come to pass.

A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 NKJV

Failing, and then getting up again is part of the learning process.

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
Psalm 37:23-24 NKJV

The closer I get to God the more what I want to do is what He wants me to do, because He created me for a purpose. No, God doesn’t laugh when we chat about my plans. 🙂

“Son, Remember The Joy”

Before Jesus was betrayed, tried and crucified He prayed in Gethsemane.

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”

39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

Luke’s account gives some interesting details.

39 Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. 40 When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” 43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Because of what is written in Hebrews, I think part of the Father’s answer to Jesus’ earnest prayer was,

“Son, remember the joy you will have when many have received the eternal life You have purchased with Your blood!”

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV

So when life is less than perfect, may I remember to meditate on the future joy that will be mine. It got Jesus through His death on the cross!

“For you shall go out with joy,
And be led out with peace;
The mountains and the hills
Shall break forth into singing before you,
And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”

17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;
And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create;
For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing,

The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her,

Humility = Reality

I wrote this verse in my notebook a few days ago.

The reward of humility is the fear of יהוה,
Riches, and esteem and life.
Mishlĕ (Proverbs) 22:4 TS2009

As I was writing I got insight. (This happens often and is one of the main reasons I take notes as I do Bible study. 🙂 ) The thought was that humility is reality. That is, the verse could be stated like this.

The reward of accepting reality is the fear of יהוה,
Riches, and esteem and life.

The reality is this life is temporary, and I get to choose to spend eternity either with God or without Him. The reality is Jesus died for my sins. Reality is I get to choose whether He says to me, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” or “Depart from Me.” The reality is that it is the Father’s good pleasure to give me His kingdom.

God made me and has a wonderful plan for my eternity. I can choose humility – reality – and inherit all He has for me. Or I can choose pride – illusion – as if I created myself and am in charge of my eternity, and suffer the consequences. Let us choose humility. Jesus already paid the penalty!

3 If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,

Who Goes to Heaven?

Good question.

Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?

Are Only Disciples Saved?

From the story of Jesus’ crucifixion it is clear last-minute conversions are fine.

39 One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!” 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” 43 And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”
Luke 23:39-43 NASB

But what about for those of us who have been saved awhile, perhaps many years? In John’s gospel Jesus defines who is a disciple of His.

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:31-32 NKJV

Jesus is the Word, so abiding in the Word is abiding in Him.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:1-4 NKJV

11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

In one of my favorite parts of Scripture, Jesus discusses what abiding in Him is all about.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”

Note verse 6. Abiding in Jesus – being His disciple, is critical!

“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
John 15:6 NKJV

Also note that bearing fruit is a requirement.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

8 “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

The narrow way is difficult.

13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult isthe way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV

But it’s really, really worth it!

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Romans 8:18 NKJV

I like the certainty of Peter’s writing.

5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
