John G. Lake and Germs

I’m excited! I just found something I read 30+ years ago, but couldn’t remember well enough to find online. Then I read a Facebook friend’s post about a possible infection, and the name “John G. Lake” suddenly came clearly into my mind, and I found the below on my first search attempt. 🙂 Link.

He proved to local physicians that the germs would not live on his body due to the Holy Spirit alive in Him. He actually verified this under a microscope showing that the germs died upon contact with his body. Those who witnessed the experiment stood in amazement as Lake gave glory to God explaining that: “It is the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. I believe that just as long as I keep my soul in contact with the living God so that His Spirit is flowing into my soul and body, that no germ will ever attach itself to me, for the Spirit of God will kill it.

As shown in the linked article, Lake’s life and teaching are controversial. My view, “Eat the cherry, spit out the pit.” My faith is based on the Bible, not in men. What I read about Lake caused me to think about God’s healing, which is a good thing IMO.

Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”
Matthew 9:29 ESV

And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
Mark 10:52 ESV

And He said, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have  put on the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer.
Exodus 15:26 NASB

Warning to “Once Saved, Always Saved” Teachers

Our works do not save us, but we better have good works.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
James 2:14-26 ESV

I May Be Wrong, because I’m seeing though a glass darkly. But I have heard some messages on YouTube that make me very concerned for the people giving the messages. I feel the need to post this response.

Seven times in Revelation Jesus said, “I know thy works.” He also said this about works:

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Revelation 22:12 KJV

There are at least four other passages in Revelation that discuss works. References and more.

Warning one. Removing the importance of works from Revelation’s message might be eternally fatal.

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Revelation 22:19 KJV

I believe I have been saved by grace through faith, not of works. I also believe the Bible means what it says about post-salvation behavior being a part of ultimate salvation.

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21 ESV

But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Ephesians 5:3-5 ESV

Warning two. I suggest you carefully consider whether to call me full of pride, or to call me a fool.

But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.
Matthew 5:22 ESV

Thank God for forgiveness!

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

On Censorship

BibleHub is unwelcome in the book of faces? And ScriptureKeys, and some of my posts? This has to be deliberate, IMO.

This will not end well for them. I pray they repent while they can.

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Matthew 16:13-19 ESV

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
Romans 1:18 ESV

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11 KJV

Let me not be ashamed, O Lord ; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
Psalms 31:17-18 KJV

The John 4 Murder Mystery

Well, not quite a murder mystery. 😉 But still, I am amazed at how it often seems like I have never read some Bible passages before, though I’ve been a Christian nearly 40 years. The key seems to be to read sloooooowly and to try to put myself in the scene.

Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), he left Judea and departed again for Galilee.
John 4:1-3 ESV

What? Jesus quit baptizing when he knew the Pharisees knew He was a bigger deal than John the Baptist? What kind of reason is that? The Pharisees must be more important than I had realized. There is Nicodemus in the previous chapter, and Pharisees hassling John the Baptist in the first chapter. I’m going to be keeping my eyes open for more about the Pharisees!

(although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples),
John 4:2 ESV

Hummm… Two main thoughts. First, I wonder if Jesus never baptized with water during His early ministry. John said Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. Second, Jesus was very active in training His disciples! Are there things I should be doing for others that I’m not doing?

And He had to pass through Samaria.
John 4:4 NASB

Why? Was that the only open road? Can’t be. Even before He had His resurrected body He walked on water and instantly covered great distances, taking people and things with Him. Ahh, this must be the reason:

Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.”
John 4:34 ESV

Thanks to Pastor Sandy, I know the reason He had to go through Samaria was to spend 2000 years with the Gentiles. I mean, 2 days with the Gentiles. It’s the same.

So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.
John 4:40 ESV

After the two days he departed for Galilee.
John 4:43 ESV

When I think about this verse, I usually chuckle.

(For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.)
John 4:8 ESV

It does not say they went into the city to beg food. Jesus’ earthly ministry had sufficient financing!

Soon afterward he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.
Luke 8:1-3 ESV

And so on. The Word is living and active, and always expands before me — when I take the time to make it a priority!
