I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalms 91:2 NIV
Reading Psalms 91 this morning, verse 2 stood out. God is my refuge and fortress. I trust Him. I will continue to trust Him, and that is my “Plan A.” There is no “Plan B” that will work.
Later I read the Psalms for the 31st of the month and these passages support and confirm trusting in God.
3 Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. 4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. 5 Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. Psalms 146:3-5 NIV
The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy. Psalms 147:11 NKJV
For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Psalms 149:4 NIV

“If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.” Proverbs 9:12 NKJV
Proverbs 9:12 continues to stand out to me each month as I read Proverbs. I am judged alone, and so is everyone else. We all choose either to be wise or to scoff. From the context, everything begins with the fear of the Lord.
10 “The fear of the Lordis the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 11 For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you. 12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.” Proverbs 9:10-12 NKJV
Someone asked Jesus if many people would be saved. Jesus’ reply was basically, “Make sure you get in!”
23 Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?”
And He said to them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, formany, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” Luke 13:23-24 NKJV
The Greek word translated strive is Strong’s G75, agónizomai, the root of the English word agonize. Jesus could be saying, “Agonize to enter through the narrow gate.” It reminds me of what Peter wrote.

May we all choose to be wise, and not be scoffers.

Lift Up Your Eyes!
