God gave me an interesting mind. On the one hand I was given incredible talent for some things. A few years ago I concluded that it was impossible that the speed of light in a vacuum is a constant for all time, and that there is an ultimate shortest distance, that is, there is a distance that cannot be cut in half. I later found out these things have been proven true. For a Christian perspective on our reality I recommend teachings by Chuck Missler like this one.
On the other hand, I am what the Bible calls simple, per this verse.
The simple believes every word,
But the prudent considers well his steps.
Proverbs 14:15 NKJV
That is, I tend to believe everything I hear and read. From past experiences I know that I am quite gullible. It just rarely occurs to me that what I am hearing or reading may not be 100% the truth. In the natural, this command of Jesus does not apply to me very well.
“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.“
Matthew 10:16 NKJV
Initially this realization about myself was a little hard to accept. But I have come to understand it is an opportunity for His strength.
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:10 NASB
Besides, it would be foolish of me to forget what I looked like.
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
James 1:22-25 NKJV
Plus, there is plenty of help for the simple in the Scriptures.
2 To know wisdom and instruction,
To perceive the words of understanding,
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom,
Justice, judgment, and equity;
4 To give prudence to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion—
5 A wise man will hear and increase learning,
And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,
6 To understand a proverb and an enigma,
The words of the wise and their riddles.
Proverbs 1:2-6 NKJV
I just have to be very, very careful what I hear and read. Wisdom and folly present the same invitation!
1 Wisdom has built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2 She has slaughtered her meat,
She has mixed her wine,
She has also furnished her table.
3 She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
13 A foolish woman is clamorous;
She is simple, and knows nothing.
14 For she sits at the door of her house,
On a seat by the highest places of the city,
15 To call to those who pass by,
Who go straight on their way:
16 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here”;
Proverbs 9:1-4, 13-16 NKJV
Jesus is coming soon. Be ready!
32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:32-35 NKJV
34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Luke 21:34-36 NKJV
Has the rapture happened?
You can still be saved and go to heaven!
