The Secret Place – Love, Obedience

I have been reading Psalms 91 (almost) every day since February 2019. I always ponder whether I am in that blessed secret place.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1 NKJV

A few verses later I have been noticing that where I dwell is my choice. It’s up to me!

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
Psalm 91:9 NKJV

Then towards the end of the Psalm I notice that it’s love for God that matters.

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
Psalm 91:14 NKJV

I like how this reads in my TS2009.

Because he cleaves to Me in love,
Therefore I deliver him; ”
Tehillim (Psalms) 91:14 TS2009

Then I think about Scriptures of how we show that we love God. It’s not feelings, it’s behavior.

15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.

21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

23 Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.”
John 14:15, 21, 23-24 NKJV

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
1 John 2:3-6 NKJV

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
1 John 5:2-3 NKJV

This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.
2 John 1:6 NKJV

Therefore it appears to me that The Secret Place of the Most High is entered and dwelt in by loving God – obeying Him!

Jesus is coming soon. Be ready!

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-6 NKJV

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:32-35 NKJV

34 But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.
Luke 21:34-36 NKJV

No Cowards In Heaven!

Being a coward bars entry to heaven.

And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
Revelation 21:6-8 NKJV

I know this passage is part of a long prophetic Scripture, but I believe it stands alone as truth too. If we really know God, we will be strong!

“… but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.
Daniel 11:32 NKJV

In His sermon on the mount Jesus said that we should stand out.

13 You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:13-16 NKJV

Proverbs has teaching on the topic.

The wicked flee when no one pursues,
But the righteous are bold as a lion.
Proverbs 28:1 NKJV

A righteous man who falters before the wicked
Is like a murky spring and a polluted well.
Proverbs 25:26 NKJV

Open your mouth for the speechless,
In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And plead the cause of the poor and needy.
Proverbs 31:8-9 NKJV

We can pray for boldness.

In the day when I cried out, You answered me,
And made me bold with strength in my soul.
Psalm 138:3 NKJV

27 “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together 28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. 29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
Acts 4:27-31 NKJV

Gideon is someone God made bold. The story is in Judges 6-8. Gideon overcame cowardice and gets a mention in Faith’s Hall of Fame in Hebrews.

32 And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: 33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
Hebrews 11:32-34 NKJV

I believe that fearing the Lord instead of man is key to having holy boldness.

The fear of man brings a snare,
But whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.
Proverbs 29:25 NKJV

“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!

“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:4-7 NKJV

Remember that whatever we say about Jesus is what He will say about us!

“Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.
Luke 12:8-9 NKJV

He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.
Revelation 3:5 NKJV

The Bible teaches us to look ahead and take appropriate actions.

A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself,
But the simple pass on and are punished.
Proverbs 22:3 NKJV

A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself;
The simple pass on and are punished.
Proverbs 27:12 NKJV

Many Christians are being killed for their faith in Jesus. May we all be prepared to remember the big picture if we face a similar situation!

10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”
Revelation 12:10-12 NKJV

Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Revelation 2:10 NKJV

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.
Matthew 16:24-27 NKJV

Father, guard us with Your truth!

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
1 John 4:4 NKJV

14 Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”

16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
2 Kings 6:14-17 NKJV

Looking To Jesus, The Author And Finisher Of Our Faith

I have often heard this Scripture fragment used like we can relax and just let Jesus handle stuff. I have used it that way myself I’m sure.

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,
Hebrews 12:2 NKJV

But a few days ago it struck me the whole context is about persevering when things are rough!

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV

It’s like this passage from James.

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
James 1:12 BSB

There is much in Hebrews 12 about persevering. You may want to spend some time in that chapter if you haven’t recently.

Jesus is coming soon. Be ready!

Psalms 23:1 – I Lack Nothing!

About three weeks ago I started reading Psalms 23 every day. As a result I have been meditating on verse 1, that because The Lord is my shepherd, I do not lack.

יהוה is my shepherd;
I do not lack.
Tehillim (Psalms) 23:1 TS2009

My part is of course to do a good job of following Jesus.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
John 10:11 NKJV

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

Think On Your Future Joy!

Jesus was able to complete His mission of dying on the cross because He was looking forward to the joy of populating heaven with people He redeemed.

Therefore thinking about our future joy will help us get through tough times too.

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV

Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:1 NKJV

Heaven will be a wonderful, joy-filled experience!

And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.
Revelation 22:1-5 NKJV

But as it is written:

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV

Here are more Scriptures that help me think about future joy. 🙂

A Little Child Shall Lead Them

I woke up thinking about Christmas and the Bible quote, A little child shall lead them. I knew the context – the peaceful 1000-year reign of Jesus. I thought about how the Alpha and Omega emptied Himself and was born a man, and became the little child who grew up and and lead me to eternal life.

I looked up the reference, and Isaiah 11 is all about Jesus! Here is part of it.

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

His delight is in the fear of the Lord,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
But with righteousness He shall judge the poor,
And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.
Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins,
And faithfulness the belt of His waist.

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.
The cow and the bear shall graze;
Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole,
And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.
Isaiah 11:1-9 NKJV

Merry Christmas everyone! Thank You Jesus for coming to earth and dying for me so I can live forever with You! You are the Prince of Peace!

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Are My Notebooks In Heaven?

I have written a lot of Scripture in notebooks as part of my Bible study. I have wondered for a long time if these notebooks are “earth only” or if I’m also writing on books in heaven. I don’t have a definite answer, but two passages came to mind close together that make me think some of my notes may be in heaven. First, Jesus has made me a king.

John, to the seven churches which are in Asia:

Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.

To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Revelation 1:4-6 NKJV

Second, Israel’s kings were each to write a copy of the law.

14 “When you come to the land which the Lord your God is giving you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations that are around me,’ 15 you shall surely set a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses; one from among your brethren you shall set as king over you; you may not set a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. 16 But he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for the Lord has said to you, ‘You shall not return that way again.’ 17 Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself.

18 Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, 20 that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel.
Deuteronomy 17:14-20 NKJV

So perhaps one of our tasks in heaven will be to write a copy of the Bible. If so, I think I’ve made progress that will count towards that task. 🙂

Is Love For God A Feeling Or Behavior?

Whenever I’ve read the passage where Jesus says what is the greatest commandment, I have always hoped for lots and lots of grace, because I rarely feel like I love God with everything I have.

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 22:36-40 NKJV

But a few days ago I got an insight on Scriptures I have read many times. I don’t have to rely on feelings to know whether I love God, I can tell whether or not I love God based on my decisions, my behavior.

And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the very commandment you have heard from the beginning, that you must walk in love.
2 John 6 BSB

15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.

21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

23 Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.”
John 14:15, 21, 23-24 NKJV

14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside aredogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
Revelation 22:14-15 NKJV

This has been a very freeing insight. I don’t have to depend on fickle feelings. I can simply see what I do to know whether or not I love God. 🙂
