Let Unanswered Prayer Increase Your Faith

One morning this last week I woke up in the morning from a dream. The dream was no big deal, just something about life in general. But it definitely wasn’t a dream from God. Then I seemed to have a bit of a conversation with God. He wondered why I had quit praying for dreams and visions per Acts 2.

17 “‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy.'”
Acts 2:17-18 NKJV

I didn’t have any good answer. After all, the Bible says things like this.

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Mark 11:24 BSB

Delight yourself also in the LORD,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalms 37:4 NKJV

I had quit praying for Godly dreams because I had prayed awhile but hadn’t received any. I am now resolved to keep praying per this parable.

Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying,‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ”

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:1-8 NKJV

Therefore, faith is continuing to pray even though the prayers are not yet answered. That is what Jesus wants to find when He returns. I need to keep on praying!

Jesus is coming soon. Be ready! And keep praying!

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:32-35 NKJV

34 But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.

Pray! (Grand) Parent Is Not An Elected Position!

I recently watched a YouTube video where the speaker talked about praying for wayward adult children. At one point during the video I had a burst of insight as to the God-given power I possess for praying for my children. I am their father, and that is not an elected position. My children did not vote me in, and they cannot vote me out. God made me their father, and as such I have the position to pray effectively. Here are some verses you can use to pray for your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, …, too! As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD! I believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and therefore I and my whole household is saved!

“But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!
Joshua 24:15 BSB

25 I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his descendants begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lends;
And his descendants are blessed.
Psalms 37:25-26 NKJV

12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He has strengthened the bars of your gates;
He has blessed your children within you.
Psalms 147:12-13 NKJV

Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished,
But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.
Proverbs 11:21 NASB

The righteous man walks with integrity;
blessed are his children after him.
Proverbs 20:7 BSB

Indeed, this is what the LORD says: “Even the captives of the mighty will be taken away, and the plunder of a tyrant will be retrieved; I will contend with those who contend with you, and I will save your children.
Isaiah 49:25 BSB

I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will always fear Me for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
Jeremiah 32:39 BSB

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Acts 2:38-39 NKJV

30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.
Acts 16:30-31 NKJV

Remember, our righteousness is Jesus’ righteousness.

30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 1:30-31 NKJV

… He is righteous and declares righteous the one who has belief in יהושע.
Romiyim (Romans) 3:26 TS2009

Therefore, I believe our prayers can have the same power as Jesus’ prayers!

The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail.
James 5:16b BSB

Pray in faith for your wayward descendants!

Jesus is coming back very soon. Please be ready to meet Him!

A Daily Prayer

At least once a day I pray something like this.

Father,

I pray that I would be considered worthy to escape the things coming on the earth, and to stand before the Son of Man. It is not about my filthy-rags righteousness. But You are righteous and declare righteous the one who has belief in Yahushua, and I believe in Yahushua! Jesus is my righteousness. Thank you Father for the gift of eternal life.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Here are some Scriptures to back up the prayer.

34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.
Luke 21:34-36 NKJV

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Isaiah 64:6 KJV

He is righteous and declares righteous the one who has belief in יהושע (Jesus).
Romiyim (Romans) 3:26 TS2009

God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21 BSB

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23 NKJV

I believe good works are important, but I know I am not saved because of my good works. Here is Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV repunctuated. I think it makes the paragraph clearer.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God (not of works, lest anyone should boast,) for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

My daily prayer above helps keep me mindful of God’s grace!

Jesus is coming soon! Be ready to meet Him!

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors!34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”

Psalms 107 – Praying for Backsliders

Reading Psalms 107 last night I felt prompted to sloooooow doooooown on one part of the Psalm. So as is my habit, I wrote the Scripture. This is how I know I’m paying attention to every word.

As I was writing, (that is an important point,) it was progressively revealed to me how the Scripture applies to some backslidden people about whom I am very concerned and for whom I am diligently praying. Here is the full text.

10 Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Bound in affliction and irons,
11 Because they rebelled against the words of Ěl,
And despised the counsel of the Most High.
12 And He humbled their heart by toil;
They stumbled, and there was no one to help.
13 And they cried out to יהוה in their distress,
And He saved them out of their troubles.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And He broke their chains in pieces.
15 Let them give thanks to יהוה for His loving-commitment,
And His wonders to the children of men!
16 For He has broken the gates of bronze,
And He cut the bars of iron in two.
Tehillim (Psalms) 107:10-16 TS2009

Verses 10 – 11

10 Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Bound in affliction and irons,
11 Because they rebelled against the words of Ěl,
And despised the counsel of the Most High.

These backslidden people are in serious trouble. They are in darkness so they don’t see what is making them stumble. The shadow of death is real, for if they die in their current state I believe they will not enter heaven. They are in self-inflicted affliction, and their irons make it unlikely they can ever free themselves. They are in this state because they rebelled against the Word, and rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft. They have contemptuously cast the Word behind them, and despising the Most High’s counsel is a horrible long-term strategy:

24 “Because I have called and you refused,
I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,
25 Because you disdained all my counsel,
And would have none of my rebuke,
26 I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when your terror comes,
27 When your terror comes like a storm,
And your destruction comes like a whirlwind,
When distress and anguish come upon you.

28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer;
They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge
And did not choose the fear of the Lord,
30 They would have none of my counsel
And despised my every rebuke.
31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way,
And be filled to the full with their own fancies.
32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them,
And the complacency of fools will destroy them;
33 But whoever listens to me will dwell safely,
And will be secure, without fear of evil.”
Proverbs 1:24-33 NKJV

Verse 12

12 And He humbled their heart by toil;
They stumbled, and there was no one to help.

But The Almighty is working on their hearts and their circumstances. He is doing what no man can do.

Verse 13a

13 And they cried out to יהוה in their distress,

Oh, Father! May the lost and backslidden come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil! May they choose Your gift of eternal life! May they seek You while You can be found, and call upon You while you are near! Let them repent and You will abundantly pardon! Grant repentance and give mercy to the lost and backslidden, Father!

Verses 13-16

13 And they cried out to יהוה in their distress,
And He saved them out of their troubles.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And He broke their chains in pieces.
15 Let them give thanks to יהוה for His loving-commitment,
And His wonders to the children of men!
16 For He has broken the gates of bronze,
And He cut the bars of iron in two.

יהוה does for them what they cannot do for themselves. The Father and the Son are one, so whoever the Son sets free is free indeed!

Verse 15

15 Let them give thanks to יהוה for His loving-commitment,
And His wonders to the children of men!

Their part, and our part, is to rejoice and be thankful! After all, once upon a time not so long ago people prayed for me and God delivered me!

Finding Lost Items

Jesus talks about nothing staying hidden four times in three of the Gospels.

Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
Matthew 10:26 NKJV

For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.”
Mark 4:22 NKJV

For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.
Luke 8:17 NKJV

For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.
Luke 12:2 NKJV

I know the context of these verses is talking about things “more important” than finding lost car keys, but sometimes lost car keys are important to find too. I am happy to report that prayers like this have helped me to quickly find misplaced things many, many times.

“Father, I thank You that Your Word says that there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, so I thank You for helping me find (whatever I cannot find). In Jesus name, Amen!”

The most dramatic fulfillment of this prayer was for someone else’s benefit, someone who may not even have been a Christian. My family and I were on vacation at a resort. I was sitting at the top of a long, sloping bank above the river. It was a moonless night, and I was just sitting there enjoying the cool peacefulness. Then someone walked up and said he was looking for his keys he had dropped somewhere. I said the prayer under my breath, got up, and walked diagonally down the bank about 20 feet. I bent over, and picked up the keys out of the long grass. When I handed them to him he asked how I knew where they were. I briefly talked about my prayer and said that I didn’t know where the keys were, but God did.

That was 20 or more years ago, but it is still a warm, encouraging memory. The next time you misplace something, ask God to help you find it, as there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed! 🙂

Your Father Knows What You Need

Jesus taught about prayer in the Sermon on the Mount. This part jumped out at me.

7 And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Matthew 6:7-8 BSB

The Father knows what I need. I know what I want, but do I know what I need? No, I don’t know what I need. See, we are His sheep.

Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Psalms 100:3 NKJV

We had sheep while I was growing up, and I know for a fact that while sheep know their wants, they are notoriously poor at judging their needs. Left to themselves, sheep will eat so much alfalfa or grain that they will actually bloat and die! Sheep really can’t take care of themselves. Sheep need a shepherd! It is the shepherd’s job to provide what the sheep need, and protect them. Fortunately, we believers have The Good Shepherd!

1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.
Psalms 23 NKJV

My part is to listen and obey.

My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.
John 10:27 BSB

This insight is less than a day old, but it has increased my joy and confidence when praying this:

Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:10 NKJV

I know that He is giving me what I need!

Take-No-Prisoners Prayer

This passage is encouraging me to step up my armoring-up process and my prayer life.

37 I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them;
Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.
38 I have wounded them,
So that they could not rise;
They have fallen under my feet.
39 For You have armed me with strength for the battle;
You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
Psalms 18:37-39 NKJV

Important – Identify the Enemy

People are not our enemies. Jesus is speaking:

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
Matthew 5:43-45 NKJV

Spiritual wickedness is the enemy!

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:11-12 NKJV

Under Garments

These items keep the chilly armor away from my skin.

20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:20-24 NKJV

But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ isall and in all.
Colossians 3:8-11 NKJV

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Colossians 3:12-14 NIV

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Romans 13:14 NKJV

It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.
1 Corinthians 1:30 BSB

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Isaiah 61:10 NKJV

Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place,
You and the ark of Your strength.
Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness,
And let Your saints shout for joy.
Psalms 132:8-9 NKJV

The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints
Ephesians 6:10-18 NKJV

Some translations use the helmet of deliverance, which I like.

Take also the helmet of deliverance, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of Elohim,
Eph`siyim (Ephesians) 6:17 TS2009

Dressed For Success Prayer

Father, I put off the old man and put on the new man – the Lord Jesus Christ. I put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and above all these, love, the bond of perfection. I thank You that You have clothed me with the garments of salvation and the robe of Jesus’ righteousness.

I put on the whole armor of God, that having done all to stand in the evil day, I will stand. I stand firm, therefore, having girt my loins about with truth. I put on the breastplate of righteousness, and have shod my feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, I take up the shield of faith, with which I am able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the wicked one. I put on the helmet of salvation – the helmet of deliverance, and take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. And I pray always in the Spirit.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen!

Strength and Mission

After putting on the armor, I will pray from Psalms 18.

32 It is God who arms me with strength,
And makes my way perfect.
33 He makes my feet like the feet of deer,
And sets me on my high places.
34 He teaches my hands to make war,
So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

35 You have also given me the shield of Your salvation;
Your right hand has held me up,
Your gentleness has made me great.
36 You enlarged my path under me,
So my feet did not slip.

37 I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them;
Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.
38 I have wounded them,
So that they could not rise;
They have fallen under my feet.
39 For You have armed me with strength for the battle;
You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
Psalms 18:32-39 NKJV

These are Jesus’ words too!

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
