Keep Praying!

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
Luke 18:1 ESV

20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.
Jude 1:20-21 ESV

Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Luke 21:36 NKJV

14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV

22 So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. 23 Then Abraham drew near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?
Genesis 18:22-25 ESV

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.
James 5:13-18 ESV

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Ephesians 6:18 NLT

And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Mark 11:25 ESV

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:4-7 ESV

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
1 Peter 4:7 ESV

Jesus is coming very, very soon. Be ready!

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-6 NKJV

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:32-35 NKJV

34 But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.

Praying The Word For 15 Minutes

In the early 1990’s I was learning the importance of praying / confessing / declaring God’s Word, and in 1995 I discovered a way I could pray / confess / declare God’s Word while driving and still keep my eyes on the road. I made a “prompted recording” of things to pray about on a cassette tape, then prayed with the recording on my morning and evening commutes. Sometime later I made a second recording on the backside of the cassette tape of some of the confessions on the frontside, so I could just flip the tape instead of rewinding it.

I still use those recordings today. It is a huge blessing to tap a few times on my iPhone and pray / confess / declare God’s Word for 15 minutes! I suggest you make your own recording(s) or download mine. Below is my first post on this topic, from August 2017.

I lived in the Washington DC area for a number of years and wanted to make good use of my automobile commute time. It was normally about 45 minutes each way, but traffic and accidents on the DC beltway could make the time much longer. In particular, I had read The Tongue – A Creative Force by Charles Capps, and wanted to pray the confessions he put together. I had tried writing prayers on note cards. This proved ineffective in heavy traffic, as I did not want to take my eyes off the road. I also knew I couldn’t just record a cassette tape of the confessions. I had a prayer tape from a pastor, but it was difficult to memorize the whole tape. The pastor would often be halfway through a verse before I would remember it. It was not an effective way to pray.

Then I had an idea. I could make a tape with a brief introduction of each confession, to jog my memory to be able pray along with the verse. I had typed the confessions in plural form so I could pray for me and my house per Joshua 24:15. (Images below.) I wanted to say each confession twice, so these are the first three confessions as I recorded them.

We are the body. We are the body of Christ and Satan has no power over me and my house. For we overcome evil with good. We are the body of Christ and Satan has no power over me and my house. For we overcome evil with good.

We are of God. We are of God and have overcome him (Satan). For greater is He that is in me and my house, than he that is in the world. We are of God and have overcome him (Satan). For greater is He that is in me and my house, than he that is in the world.

We will fear no evil. We will fear no evil for thou art with me and my house, Lord, Your Word and Your Spirit they comfort me and my house. We will fear no evil for thou art with me and my house, Lord, Your Word and Your Spirit they comfort me and my house.

This worked wonderfully well! After just a few times the slight memory jog for each confession was enough I could pray right along with myself on the tape. A few months later I recorded the “Material Needs” and “Wisdom and Guidance” on the back of the tape as an alternative to rewinding. Around 2005 I converted them to MP3s. I still use them. I will often walk around the house praying along with the iPhone in my shirt pocket. I made a few mistakes and there is tape hiss, but I don’t notice the hiss when I’m praying along with it. Feel free to download and use these. And of course, feel free to use this technique to record your own prayers.

All I have is printouts of my script. It was probably an AmiPro document that was lost on a hard disk crash on a PC that was too old to be networked, and whose floppy drive had failed. No, USB memory sticks were not an option in the 1990’s.  🙂  Images

Praying in Faith for Our Children and Grandchildren

As I continue to read my Bible, Scriptures jump out to me about praying in faith for my natural and “spiritual” descendants. I added recent passages to my post below from July 2019. There are more Scriptures in this post too: Update: Prayer for the Unsaved and Backsliders. Blessings!

I recently watched a YouTube video where the speaker talked about praying for wayward adult children. At one point during the video I had a burst of insight as to the God-given power I possess for praying for my children. I am their father, and that is not an elected position. My children did not vote me in, and they cannot vote me out. God made me their father, and as such I have the position to pray effectively. Here are some verses you can use to pray for your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, …, too! As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD! I believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and therefore I and my whole household is saved!

“But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!
Joshua 24:15 BSB

12 Who is the man that fears the Lord?
Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.
13 He himself shall dwell in prosperity,
And his descendants shall inherit the earth.
14 The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him,
And He will show them His covenant.
Psalms 25:12-14 NKJV

25 I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his descendants begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lends;
And his descendants are blessed.
Psalms 37:25-26 NKJV

17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children,
18 To such as keep His covenant,
And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
Psalms 103:17-18 NKJV

12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He has strengthened the bars of your gates;
He has blessed your children within you.
Psalms 147:12-13 NKJV

Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished,
But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.
Proverbs 11:21 NASB

The righteous man walks with integrity;
blessed are his children after him.
Proverbs 20:7 BSB

Indeed, this is what the LORD says: “Even the captives of the mighty will be taken away, and the plunder of a tyrant will be retrieved; I will contend with those who contend with you, and I will save your children.
Isaiah 49:25 BSB

I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will always fear Me for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
Jeremiah 32:39 BSB

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Acts 2:38-39 NKJV

30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.
Acts 16:30-31 NKJV

Remember, our righteousness is Jesus’ righteousness.

30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 1:30-31 NKJV

… He is righteous and declares righteous the one who has belief in יהושע.
Romiyim (Romans) 3:26 TS2009

Therefore, I believe our prayers can have the same power as Jesus’ prayers!

The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail.
James 5:16b BSB

John 15:7 – Whatever You Wish

In John 15:7 Jesus makes a statement that seems too good to be true, that we can receive whatever wish when we pray.

If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you wish, and to you it will come to pass.
John 15:7 BLB

He taught the same thing many times during His earthly ministry.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 NKJV

12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
John 14:12-14 NKJV

You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
John 15:16 NKJV

23 “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
John 16:23-24 NKJV

19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away.

20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?”

21 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. 22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Matthew 21:19-22 NKJV

The story of the fig tree is also recorded in Mark’s gospel.

12 Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.”

And His disciples heard it.

20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
Mark 11:12-14, 20-26 NKJV

Closely related is Jesus’ teaching on the prayer of agreement.

19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
Matthew 18:19-20 NKJV

These teachings of Jesus remind me of The Prayer of Jabez in the Old Testament.

And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
1 Chronicles 4:10 NKJV

So Why Aren’t My Prayers Answered?

Jesus taught I can pray and receive whatever I wish, and God cannot lie. But not all of my prayers have been answered, so what’s going on? Let’s look at Scripture from James.

Motives

Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires forpleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?
James 4:1-5 NKJV

James gives two reasons. In verse 2 we haven’t asked, so we haven’t received. In verse 3 he writes that we haven’t received because we asked with wrong motives. John gives more insight.

14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
1 John 5:14-15 NKJV

The “whatever we wish” needs to be God’s will. We find God’s will by abiding in Jesus and letting His words abide in us.

If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you wish, and to you it will come to pass.
John 15:7 BLB

Sin

Unrepented sin blocks receiving.

If I regard iniquity in my heart,
The Lord will not hear.
Psalm 66:18 NKJV

Fortunately restoration is just a prayer away!

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 NKJV

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10 NKJV

Waiting

Because of spiritual warfare, it took 21 days for Daniel’s prayer to be answered.

And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly loved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come.”
Daniel 10:10-14 ESV

This passage suggests to me we may have to pray a long, long time before we see the answers. The key is to keep praying and not lose heart.

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said,”In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” And the Lord said,”Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Luke 18:1-8 ESV

Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV

Some Prayers Will Be Answered In The Next Life

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. 15 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
Hebrews 11:13-16 NKJV

So set your mind on eternity, where some of your prayers will be answered. It’s a way of laying up treasure in heaven to keep the heart where it should be.

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Colossians 3:1-4 NKJV

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV

In fact, I pray very little about earthly things, except God’s daily provision. I know this earth is going away.

“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:8-15 NKJV

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
2 Peter 3:10-13 NKJV

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.
Revelation 20:11 NKJV

Conclusion

Abide in Jesus and let His Word abide abide in you, and whatever you ask in prayer you will receive. But it may take time for the answers to manifest, and some answers may not come in this life. But keep praying anyway!

Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV

God loves to hear from us!

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD,
But the prayer of the upright is His delight.
Proverbs 15:8 NKJV

Prayers help heaven smell good!

Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
Revelation 5:8 NKJV

Jesus is coming very soon.

Update – Personalized Psalms 91 Prayer

In the more-than-a-month I have been praying Psalms 91 the prayer has become much more personal and I think, more effective. My name is Mark, and I confess it took a few days for me to feel completely comfortable praying like this.

14 Father יהוה says, “Because Mark cleaves to Me in love,
Therefore I deliver him;
I set Mark on high,
Because he has known My Name.
15 “When Mark calls on Me, I answer him;
I am with him in distress;
I deliver Mark and esteem him.
16 “With long life I satisfy Mark,
And show him My deliverance.”
In the Name of יהושע (Jesus) Messiah, Amen.

But after a few days I knew this is the sort of thing that makes God happy. 🙂

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD,
But the prayer of the upright is His delight.
Proverbs 15:8 NKJV

Here is the updated prayer. I recommend you use your name and the appropriate him/her pronoun in the blanks.

1 By faith I say I dwell in the secret place of the Most High,
That I abide under the shadow of the Almighty,
2 So I am saying to and of You, Father יהוה,
“You are my refuge and my stronghold,
My Elohim, in whom I trust!”
3 For You, Father יהוה, deliver me from the snare of a trapper,
From the destructive pestilence.
4 You cover me with Your feathers,
And under Your wings I take refuge;
Your truth, Father יהוה, is my shield and armour.
5 I am not afraid of the dread by night,
Of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Of destruction that ravages at midday.
7 A thousand fall at my side,
And ten thousand at my right hand;
But it does not come near me.
8 Only with my eyes I look on,
And see the reward of the wrong ones.
9 Because I have made You, Abba, Father יהוה,
My dwelling place,
10 No evil befalls me,
And a plague does not come near my tent;
11 For You command Your messengers concerning me,
To guard me in all my ways.
12 They bear me up in their hands,
Lest I dash my foot against a stone.
13 I tread upon lion and cobra,
Young lion and serpent I trample under foot.
14 Father יהוה says, “Because ____ cleaves to Me in love,
Therefore I deliver ____;
I set ____ on high,
Because ____ has known My Name.
15 “When ____ calls on Me, I answer ____;
I am with ____ in distress;
I deliver ____ and esteem ____.
16 “With long life I satisfy ____,
And show ____ My deliverance.”
In the Name of יהושע (Jesus) Messiah, Amen.

Here is an image of the prayer I can use on my ancient iPad, which cannot display this web page correctly.

This is Psalms 91 in the TS2009 translation.

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High,
Who abides under the shadow of the Almighty,
2 He is saying of יהוה, “My refuge and my stronghold,
My Elohim, in whom I trust!”
3 For He delivers you from the snare of a trapper,
From the destructive pestilence.
4 He covers you with His feathers,
And under His wings you take refuge;
His truth is a shield and armour.
5 You are not afraid of the dread by night,
Of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Of destruction that ravages at midday.
7 A thousand fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it does not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes you look on,
And see the reward of the wrong ones.
9 Because you have made יהוה –
My refuge, the Most High – your dwelling place,
10 No evil befalls you,
And a plague does not come near your tent;
11 For He commands His messengers concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways.
12 They bear you up in their hands,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
13 You tread upon lion and cobra,
Young lion and serpent you trample under foot.
14 “Because he cleaves to Me in love,
Therefore I deliver him;
I set him on high,
Because he has known My Name.
15 “When he calls on Me, I answer him;
I am with him in distress;
I deliver him and esteem him.
16 “With long life I satisfy him,
And show him My deliverance.”
Tehillim (Psalms) 91 TS2009

Jesus is coming soon.

Luke 21:34-36 NKJV

Keep on Asking, Seeking, Knocking

Many of us know well these words of Jesus.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
Matthew 7:7-11 NKJV

Years ago my pastor taught that the Greek verbs in verse 7 are in a tense that the English language does not have. In the Greek, “ask” isn’t a one-time thing. It’s more of a continual thing – “ask and keep on asking.” The Amplified and Amplified Classic translations better reflect the Greek verb tense.

Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you.For everyone who keeps on asking receives, and he who keeps on seeking finds, and to him who keeps on knocking, it will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 AMP

Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you.
For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 AMPC

There is a similar passage in Luke.

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 11 If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
Luke 11:9-13 NKJV

Again, the Amplified and Amplified Classic translations better reflect the Greek grammar.

“So I say to you, ask and keep on asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking, and you will find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who keeps on asking [persistently], receives; and he who keeps on seeking [persistently], finds; and to him who keeps on knocking [persistently], the door will be opened.
Luke 11:9-10 AMP

So I say to you, Ask and keep on asking and it shall be given you; seek and keep on seeking and you shall find; knock and keep on knocking and the door shall be opened to you.
10 For everyone who asks and keeps on asking receives; and he who seeks and keeps on seeking finds; and to him who knocks and keeps on knocking, the door shall be opened.
Luke 11:9-10 AMPC

The purpose of today’s post is to remind myself to keep on keeping on. 🙂

Now Jesus was telling the disciples a parable to make the point that at all times they ought to pray and not give up and lose heart, saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and had no respect for man. There was a [desperate] widow in that city and she kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice and legal protection from my adversary.’ For a time he would not; but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow continues to bother me, I will give her justice and legal protection; otherwise by continually coming she [will be an intolerable annoyance and she] will wear me out.’” Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says! And will not [our just] God defend and avenge His elect [His chosen ones] who cry out to Him day and night? Will He delay [in providing justice] on their behalf? 8 I tell you that He will defend and avenge them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find [this kind of persistent] faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:1-8 AMP

Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.
Galatians 6:9 AMP

Jesus is coming soon. Be ready!

Praying Like Daniel

Since I wrote yesterday’s post, Should We Bow Our Heads In Prayer?, I have done some praying in the posture I imagine Daniel used: On his knees, hands raised, and looking up.

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.
Daniel 6:10 NKJV

I am amazed how different it feels to pray using this posture. I’m still kneeling, choosing humility. But instead of looking down – kinda focusing on my shortcomings – I’m looking up, eyes open, and it seems that I’m automatically focusing on God, His righteousness, and His solutions. I was surprised, almost shocked, how blessed it felt to pray in “Daniel’s posture.” If you have never prayed kneeling, with hands and eyes upraised, I suggest you try. 🙂

Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.
1 Timothy 2:8 NASB

My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD;
In the morning I will direct it to You,
And I will look up.
Psalm 5:3 NKJV

Should We Bow Our Heads In Prayer?

I listened to a YouTube video where the speaker said satan has deceived the church to bow their heads down towards the pit when they pray, like the Muslims do. There may be some merit in the argument, as Scripture records Jesus looking up and praying.

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.
John 11:41 NKJV

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,
John 17:1 NKJV

However, Matthew records Jesus falling on His face to pray.

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”

39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.
Matthew 26:36-39 NKJV

Therefore I’m not going to be bothered about whether I need to be in a specific posture to pray. Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith prayed looking up and down. However, the video maker made me think. When I pray with my head bowed in the future, it’s not going to be because it’s my habit. I’m going to be deliberately humbling myself. Every knee will bow, and I prefer to get used to doing it now, voluntarily. 🙂

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
James 4:10 NKJV

I have an ancient, well-used iPad which still works well for some things.

But its operating system is outdated, and cannot be updated. It doesn’t display my post Personalized Prayer of Psalms 91 properly, and there doesn’t seem to be anything I can do to fix it. So I made a screenshot image of the prayer and put it in my shared photo album Prayers. Now I can use this old iPad to pray my Psalms 91 personalized prayer. 🙂

Personalized Prayer of Psalms 91

I really like how Psalms 91 reads in the TS2009 translation.

4 He covers you with His feathers,
And under His wings you take refuge;
His truth is a shield and armour.
5 You are not afraid of the dread by night,
Of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Of destruction that ravages at midday.
7 A thousand fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it does not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes you look on,
And see the reward of the wrong ones.
9 Because you have made יהוה –
My refuge, the Most High – your dwelling place,
10 No evil befalls you,
And a plague does not come near your tent;
11 For He commands His messengers concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways.

14 “Because he cleaves to Me in love,
Therefore I deliver him;
I set him on high,
Because he has known My Name.
15 “When he calls on Me, I answer him;
I am with him in distress;
I deliver him and esteem him.
16 “With long life I satisfy him,
And show him My deliverance.”
