Mind Above – “Seating” at the Marriage Feast of the Lamb

“Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them.”
Luke 12:37 ESV

Three days ago recline at table stood out when I read Luke 13:29. Jesus is speaking.

“And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God.”
Luke 13:29 ESV

It struck me that all the Marriage Supper of the Lamb images that show chairs instead of couches may be wrong. Here is one such image. (It shows up many times so I don’t know how to credit the creator.)

If you look at the Greek recline is correct. (BibleHub – Interlinear – Strong’s G347)

So The Marriage Supper of the Lamb may be more like this. (Image credit.)

I recommend reading from multiple translations, because even the usually-literal KJV does not choose recline.

I know this doesn’t seem like a big deal, but I’ve been thinking about it on and off for three days… 😊

Do what things to never stumble and fall? I like to think of them as Peter’s Principles, areas in which I should be seeking to continually grow.

⁵ But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, ⁶ to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, ⁷ to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. ⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peter’s Principles are a way to draw near to God.

Peter’s Principles are a way of abiding in the Word to be set free by the truth.

Peter’s Principles take work, but that shouldn’t be a surprise. Seeking silver and hidden treasures take work too!

In his wrap-up of the letter, Peter makes a last appeal for being diligent.

He Will Never Leave Us Nor Forsake Us – Overcoming Fear and Doubt

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Mind Above – Is There Fiction in Heaven?

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
2 Corinthians 4:18 NLT

I have been thinking about this topic on and off for months. Is there fiction in heaven? Are there made-up stories in heaven? Part of me thinks no, there are no fiction stories in heaven, because what need is there for make-believe in the midst of absolute perfection? It seems like anything good could be directly experienced in eternity so what is the need for fiction? But slowly I’m changing my mind. I have come to believe some people will be writing fiction in heaven and many others will be reading their stories and enjoying them. These are some of the reasons I think it likely heaven’s libraries will have fiction sections.

Happy Imaginations

I remember my parents reading The Happy Man and His Dump Truck to me when I was young, ~60 years ago. It’s not a true story but it sparked my imagination and made me laugh. What’s the harm in that?

God’s Gift of Storytelling

A college friend was an excellent storyteller. He could keep an audience listening attentively for an hour. Another person could make up short stories, mostly about animals, that would make small children laugh and laugh and laugh.

God gifted these two people with the ability to tell stories. Why would God take away the gifts in heaven? Why wouldn’t they be even better storytellers?

Comparison With Music Composition

I firmly believe music will be excellent in heaven. I believe that many people will be able to play instruments and compose music.

Is there a fundamental difference between composing music and composing words into stories? I’m starting to conclude that there isn’t. Some music and some fiction has affected me deeply emotionally. Both music and fiction have brought tears to my eyes.
