Psalm 20 – Yes, God Will!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV

Psalms 20 recently made my insides smile, so below is a post from August 2021. Blessings! 🙂

Many translations of Psalms 20 use words that don’t seem very “strong” to me. That is, the Lord may help you, but then again (to my mind) He may not.

May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!
Psalms 20:1 ESV

May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob set you securely on high!
Psalms 20:1 NASB

May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
Psalms 20:1 NIV

I like the positiveness of the TS2009 translation! He does!

יהוה does answer you in the day of distress!
The Name of the Elohim of Ya‛aqoḇ does set you on high!
He does send you help from the set-apart place,
And does uphold you from Tsiyon!
He does remember all your offerings,
And does accept your ascending offering! Selah.

He does give you according to your heart,
And fills all your plans!
We sing of Your deliverance,
And in the Name of our Elohim we set up a banner!
יהוה does fill all your requests!

Now I know that יהוה shall save His Anointed;
He answers him from His set-apart heavens
With the saving might of His right hand.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses,
But we remember the Name of יהוה our Elohim.
They, they have bowed down and fallen;
But we have risen and are established.

Save, יהוה!
Let the Sovereign answer us in the day we call.

Tehillim (Psalms) 20 TS2009

Is the TS2009 alone translating Psalm 20 so positively? Fortunately no. Some other translations are similar.

The Lord will answer you in times of trouble.
The name of the God of Jacob will protect you.
He will send you help from his holy place
and support you from Zion.
He will remember all your grain offerings
and look with favor on your burnt offerings. Selah
He will give you your heart’s desire
and carry out all your plans.

We will joyfully sing about your victory.
We will wave our flags in the name of our God.
The Lord will fulfill all your requests.

Now I know that the Lord will give victory to his anointed king.
He will answer him from his holy heaven
with mighty deeds of his powerful hand.
Some ⌞rely⌟ on chariots and others on horses,
but we will boast in the name of the Lord our God.
They will sink to their knees and fall,
but we will rise and stand firm.

Give victory to the king, O Lord.
Answer us when we call.
Psalm 20 GOD’S WORD Translation

Jehovah doth answer thee,

In a day of adversity,
The name of the God of Jacob doth set thee on high,
He doth send thy help from the sanctuary,
And from Zion doth support thee,
He doth remember all thy presents,
And thy burnt-offering doth reduce to ashes. Selah.
He doth give to thee according to thy heart,
And all thy counsel doth fulfil.

We sing of thy salvation,
And in the name of our God set up a banner.
Jehovah doth fulfil all thy requests.

Now I have known That Jehovah hath saved His anointed,
He answereth him from His holy heavens,
With the saving might of His right hand.
Some of chariots, and some of horses,
And we of the name of Jehovah our God
Make mention.
They — they have bowed and have fallen,
And we have risen and station ourselves upright.

O Jehovah, save the king,
He doth answer us in the day we call!
Psalm 20 Young’s Literal Translation

Other positive translations include the Literal Standard Version, Smith’s Literal Translation, and the Peshitta Holy Bible Translated.

The KJV is relatively positive. 🙂

1 The Lord hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;

Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;

Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.

Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.

We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the Lord fulfil all thy petitions.

Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.

Save, Lord: let the king hear us when we call.
Psalm 20 KJV

Jesus is coming very soon. Be ready!

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-6 NKJV

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:32-35 NKJV

34 But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.
Luke 21:34-36 NKJV

Has the rapture happened?
   You can still be saved and go to heaven!
