1st and 2nd Corinthians have been my least-favorite of all Paul’s letters. The believers in Corinth had a lot of problems, and it seemed to me a lot of what Paul wrote didn’t apply to me. But I’m on my 2nd reading of Paul’s epistles this year, and this time I’m getting a lot out of the letters to the Corinthians. I spent time meditating on this passage last night.
For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

The main thing that stood out is that God is pleased that I’m longing and groaning to enter eternal life. I’m a citizen of heaven and I don’t belong to or in this sinful world.
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

Last February 18th Romans 8:23 stood out in a similar way.
And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

To groan inwardly as I wait eagerly to see Jesus face to face is natural and expected. In fact, if I’m not groaning, eagerly waiting for my new, sinless body, I have a spiritual problem. I’m more focused on this life than the life to come, and both Jesus and Paul warn that’s not a good place to be.
34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

The solution is to control one’s thoughts.
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Colossians 3:2 ESV
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Try to imagine what life will be like with no more tears, death, mourning, crying or pain!
